Travellers At Work
We live on our family operated grazing property 110km North East of Broken Hill in the far west of NSW. Of this there is only 44km of dirt which is mostly our driveway off the main road. The remainder is bitumen. We are in between the University of NSW Research Station ‘Fowlers Gap’ and Mutawintji National Park in the far West of New South Wales.
We have 2 very energetic boys age 10 and 11 (year 6 and year 7) who do their schooling through distance education. The eldest does his schooling through Dubbo Distance Ed and the younger does his via Broken Hill School of the Air. They have enjoyed their time at school so far and we really hope this continues for some time yet!
My husband and I work together on the certified organic station along with his parents on the neighboring property.
We have thoroughly enjoyed living here for the past 14 years and enjoy having regular visitors come to stay. Once a year we have exchange students from all over the world camp in the woolshed for a week which is always a highlight on the boys calendar.
$600 per week with all accommodation, food, electricity and water provided freely.
I am with an In Home Care Scheme.
The school room is one room of a 2 room solid bessa brick hut 50mtrs to the rear of the homestead. The school room is equipped with everything needed to complete the boy’s school work along with its own computer, printer and scanner which the governess can use as her own in her own time.
The other room in the 2 roomed hut is the governesses bedroom with a toilet and bathroom alongside. There is a double bed and cupboard along with a television and it’s own satellite dish independent from the main house. The building has refrigerated air-conditioning and an electric oil heater and hot water system all on mains power. There is 3G mobile telephone service. The laundry and all meals are in the main house.
The primary role of this position is to manage and present the boys school work to them through Broken Hill School of The Air and Dubbo (distance education). Hence, it is very important for the governess to be very organised in planning lessons for each day whilst maintaining a close relationship with the school teachers at the School Of The Air base in Broken Hill and the teachers in Dubbo for Sam in his first year of high school.
It is the governess’ responsibility to keep the school room and her living quarters clean and tidy at all times.
It is also very important that the governess understands she is part of the team here and it will be necessary to jump in and help with general household chores especially in the busy periods of the year ie. Shearing/lambmarking/ cattle work etc.
You will need a Working With Children Check (Blue Card) or be willing to get it upon commencement of employment.
You need your own vehicle.
You will need a Senior First Aid Certificate
We are looking for someone that is young and energetic, loves children, is professional, sociable and outgoing, uses their initiative and has a good sense of humor. It would be an advantage to have some teaching experience or further education but not essential. It is also very important that you are prepared to fit in with our family and just be prepared to help out when needed. If this sounds like you we would love to hear from you!
