Permanent post for Consultant Anaesthetist in North Island New Zealand

Consultant anaesthetist in busy regional hospital with 4 theatres and a supportive dept. Ability to work across ICU is desirable. The theatre suite is split between 3 elective and 1 emergency /trauma theatre and you would be joining an exceptional team of consultants and junior doctors. Applications will be considered from anaesthetists who will achieve CCT in 2012.

This region offers an impressive array of sporting and recreational facilities and venues. The local major river sweeps through the valley over which the city is spread and is the longest navigable waterway in the North Island. The river provides facilities for rowing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing and windsurfing. The city also boasts excellent sporting facilities and has an international reputation as being one of the finest sports training regions in the world. The city is close to New Zealand\'s famed North Island ski fields, and about 2.5 hrs drive from the capital city of Wellington with daily flights to Auckland.

Due to its unique physical location, the city is sheltered and has one of the most temperate climates in the world. Summers are warm and dry with temperatures ranging between 18 to 30° and winters are mild with temperatures ranging between 4 to 14°.
Housing has some of the lowest average house prices in New Zealand, offering superior yet affordable homes. There are all types of property options including modern homes, traditional villas, city apartments, beach properties and rural farmlets, both to rent and buy. Living close to the hospital is not necessary as there is little traffic and there is ample free parking at the hospital, in fact many staff cycle to work enjoying the relatively flat terrain!

The city boasts some of the finest public and private education providers in the country, including boarding and day schools that attract students from throughout New Zealand and overseas. As well as pre-school, primary, intermediate and secondary schools, it also has tertiary level and private training establishments.
