Job Description
Our client is the largest regional health service in Queensland. Located in the "dry tropics" close to the Great Barrier Reef, it serves a regional population of around 175,000 in a vibrant town including an international airport. Currently this 450 bed hospital is undergoing redevelopment that will future-proof the hospital and allow for further expansion to meet future demand, including an expanded Elder Care unit. The redevelopment is part of a major network of hospital infrastructure developments to meet the future health care needs of North Queensland.
This Gerontology Service is a recently established service comprising Geriatric Medicine, Interim Care, Transition Care, Hospital in the Nursing Home and the Dementia Delirium Ward. The Gerontology Service seeks to improve the health of old people by physical, mental and social health treatment/strategies; to improve the functional health of the old person and to provide opportunity for study of issues relating to service provision to a ageing population. It relies on good multidisciplinary team work and a positive view of ageing.
Geriatric Medicine section of the Gerontology Service provides acute clinical services through the Acute Care of the Elderly team, an Orthogeriatric service and Falls clinic, the Dementia-Delirium ward and sub-acute clinical support to Interim Care, Transition Care, Hospital in the Nursing Home and ACAT. A sub-acute Geriatric Evaluation Management programme is on the horizon. Outpatient services are provided by an Age Awareness Clinic and a Falls Clinic with the expectation of more community work as the service develops. A Telehealth service is being commenced.
In this role, depending on seniority and qualifications, your total remuneration package value will be up to AU$350,000.
Along with direct patient responsibilities in Geriatric Medicine, you will also have include key focus areas such as:
- Ability to participate in teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels and research activities
- Work as a Team Leader/Member in a multidisciplinary approach to service provision
- Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the principles of quality improvement and Hospital accreditation, to ensure cost effective delivery and high quality care to patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Infection Control and Universal precaution principles
