Job Description
As the Director of Hyperbaric Medicine Services you will lead a multidisciplinary team in providing hyperbaric medicine services. You will maintain strong links with clinical teams locally and nationally and provide professional leadership. You will also manage a strong business model to support and grow the service; provide training, education and supervision to medical staff and other health care members; and manage an integrated research program.
This is newly developed hospital of 452 beds is a major tertiary referral hospital and has been designed to cater for continuing developments in medical technology and patient care. It is the major teaching hospital and the Rural Health Training Unit also has a close association with the hospital and a number of rural skills posts are available.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of services including acute medical, surgical, cardio-thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, hyperbaric medicine as well as Obstetrics, high risk pregnancy, general gynaecology, oncology services including gynaecological oncology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow transplant, palliative care urogynaecology, level III intensive care services, rehabilitation, allied health and paediatric services and a comprehensive mental health service.
The city is of almost 200,000 has an international airport, enjoys a dry tropical climate and is a major centre for tourism both to the Great Barrier Reef and in the local countryside, plus many major industries including the Australian armed forces. To be eligible for this role you will require at least:
- the ANZCA Certificate in Hyperbaric Medicine (HBM) OR
- a South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society (SPUMS) Diploma [or equivalent] plus
- a specialist qualification in either Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or another hospital based specialty.
- of course you must be registered or eligible for current registration as specialist with the Medical Board of Queensland
- and be able to pass the annual AS4774.2 Medical examination.
