Job Description

The Emergency Department sees around 40,000 patients per year with a steady increase in complexity. 30% of ED presentations are children and the department is currently accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine to provide 6 months of advanced training with several Registrars in training with 6 fulltime Consultant. The tertiary referral centre is 30 minutes away.

The department is currently undergoing a major physical redevelopment which is expected for completion mid 2010. The new department will include a fast track zone, paediatric zone, multiple well-appointed resuscitation rooms, co-located clinical administration and tutorial rooms. Electronic results available include PACS, cardiology and EDRS. Adjacent suites include 24/7 radiology with a new 64 slice CT scanner and a weekday non-invasive cardiology diagnostics service.

You will be responsible for provision of direct patient care and daily clinical supervision and management of Emergency Department (ED) services. The position will include non-clinical time and the proportion of clinical and non-clinical time spent will be determined by the Director of ED and the Specialist. You will support the department’s educational program and assist trainees to achieve Fellowship whilst maintaining a high level of clinical responsibility. You will support the hospital’s quality programme and be a senior clinical representative on a peak hospital-wide committee.
